Meditating for beginners in 10 practical steps

There are multiple ways to meditate. Here are 10 steps to guide you into an insightful meditation:

  1. Abstain from unhealthy foods beforehand. (or fast if you want)

  2. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed or distracted.

  3. Wear loose clothing that you can sit comfortably in. Take off your shoes if you want.

  4. Stretch your muscles to prepare for sitting.

  5. Breathe slowly and deeply.

  6. Sit up with a straight back using good posture.

  7. Close your eyes and open your mind.

  8. Concentrate and focus on a positive mental image.

  9. Repeat a mantra. (ohms, or chants are okay)

  10. Relax, and allow your mind to control your bodily urges.

Try this for ten minutes a week or as long and often as you'd like. You will find yourself embodying a calmer demeanor, having less anxiety and stress.
